Middlesex County Council
Members of County Council sit on various Standing Committees which look after the business of the County and report back to County Council at monthly meetings.

The Standing Committees are as follows:
  1. Community Services Committee
  2. Corporate Services Committee

Duties of Committees:

  1. To report to the Council from time to time, whenever desired by the Council and as often as the interest of the County may require, on all matters concerned with the duties imposed on them respectively, and to recommend such action by the Council in relation thereto as may be deemed necessary.
  2. To cause to be prepared and introduced into the Council all by-laws as may be necessary to give effect to such of their reports or recommendations as are adopted by the Council.
  3. To examine accounts connected with the discharge of their duties or with the performance of any works or the purchase of any material or goods under their supervision.
  4. To consider and report on all matters referred to them by the Council or the Warden and every such report shall be signed by the Chair submitting the same.
 
Committee Work
 
The Community Services Committee shall:
  1. Consider and report on all matters with respect to the Middlesex Ontario Works Department and the provision of assistance under the General Welfare Assistance Act, or any other Act. 
  2. Consider and report on all matters with respect to the operation of Strathmere Lodge and the residents entrusted to the County's care therein, pursuant to the Homes for the Aged and Rest Homes Act and any other relevant Act.
  3. Consider and report on any other matter relative to seniors services or services to those in need in Middlesex County.
  4. Consider and report on all matters concerning the provision of Social Housing.
  5. Consider and report on all matters serving as the County Road Committee as required by the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act.
  6. Consider and report on any other matter with respect to roads, bridges or other transportation services within the County.
  7. To receive reports from staff regarding waste management, in particular to review and monitor the progress of the City/County Joint Waste Management Planning Process.
  8. Consider and report on all matters concerning the provision of land ambulance.
  9. Consider and report on matters concerning the Middlesex Fire Communications System, and other fire service matters of county-wide interest.

 

The Corporate Services Committee shall:
  1. Consider and report on matters with respect to the County's finances, including, but not limited to; budget development, recommendation, and ongoing monitoring; review of accounts; advice to the Treasurer, when requested on matters pertaining to his Office; stewardship of the County's assets; and liability and property insurance.
  2. Consider and report on all matters related to compensation; human resources; health and safety; collective agreement negotiations; and employment policies and procedures.
  3. Consider and report on all matters related to County property other than that under the statutory direction provided to the Community Services Committee.
  4. Consider and report on all matters relating to the functioning of County Council.
  5. Consider and report on all matters concerning agriculture, weed inspection, the County forests and tree cutting by-law, and the County farm at Strathmere Lodge.
  6. Consider and report on matters with respect to land use planning, economic and tourism development, the County Official Plan, and related matters of County-wide interest.
Councillors also sit on the Middlesex County Library Board and several joint committees with the City of London.
The Middlesex County Library Board shall: 
  1. Be responsible for all matters with respect to Library Services pursuant to the Public Libraries Act; and
  2. Consider and report on such other matters as it and Council may from time to time agree that it will consider.
The Special Events Committee's shall:
  1. Consider and report on possible special events for Council
  2. Make arrangements for such special events as are approved by Council.
Other Standing and Special Committee's shall each consider and report on all matters, financial and otherwise, in their respective jurisdictions, and any other matters that may be referred to them.
 
Council may appoint such Ad Hoc Committees as are deemed necessary from time to time to deal with matters assigned to them by Council for review and report and shall be dissolved upon submission of their final reports to Council.
