Electronics Recycling Drop-off Locations
Unwanted electronics are piling up in landfills. This doesn’t make sense because most of the parts – steel, glass, copper, aluminum, plastics and precious metals – can be recovered and reused to make new products which cuts down on the amount of waste that is produced.
The "Do What You Can" website is designed to help you find places to drop-off household hazardous and special wastes and unwanted electronics that can’t be put in your Blue Box and should not go in the garbage.

Thanks for doing what you can to deal
with waste responsibly!

Jim Maudsley - 2009 Warden of Middlesex County
The
Council of the County
of
Middlesex
is pleased to announce
the
election
of Councillor Jim Maudsley as the
2009 Middlesex County Warden.
Warden Maudsley has made Thames Centre his home
for the past 35 years with his wife Linda. Jim
and Linda will celebrate their 40th
wedding anniversary later this year with their
two children and two grandchildren.
Recently, Jim
retired from a successful career in the civil
heavy construction industry to devote more time
to his hobbies; hockey, baseball and auto
racing. Despite his recent retirement, Jim
remains active in the heavy construction
industry as a honourary member of the London
Heavy Construction Association. Jim served as
President of this association three different
times over the past four decades. Currently, Jim
is a Director for the Ontario Sewer and
Watermain Construction Association.
He has also been appointed to the Source Water
Protection Committee for the Thames Sydenham
region.
Warden Maudsley entered municipal politics as a
Councillor for the
Township
of
North Dorchester
in 1985 and served for three terms. Jim was
elected as the last Deputy Reeve for North Dorchester
in 1997. In 2006, Jim was elected as the Mayor
of the amalgamated
municipality
of
Thames Centre.
In addition to his local government involvement,
Warden Maudsley has also served as a member of
County Council for two terms.

Government of Ontario is investing in municipal
infrastructure

For some time,
municipalities in Ontario have expressed
their concern with the municipal
infrastructure deficit. In response to this
need, the Province of Ontario recently
announced two new infrastructure support
programs.
The first
program is called the Municipal
Infrastructure Initiative. This funding
initiative provided
$450-million to help communities to provide
safer local roads and bridges, cleaner,
safer water, better waste management
systems, upgraded sports, recreation and
community centres.
The
second initiative was the Province of
Ontario’s Road and Bridges Program. As the
name suggests, this $400-million program is
designed to improve the Roads and Bridges in
Ontario’s communities.
At a recent
event,
Middlesex County
Warden Albert
Bannister received a cheque from
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Maria Van Bommel
in the amount of
$4,423,234
that represents Middlesex County’s share of
these two important infrastructure funding
initiatives. As he accepted the cheque,
Warden Bannister commented “these
funding programs recognize the need for
investment in municipal infrastructure.
Through this funding support, the Government
of Ontario is investing in municipal
infrastructure today in an effort to support
an improved quality of life for all
Ontarians and the future prosperity of our
communities and our province."
The first
Middlesex County project that will be funded
from these provincial funds is a
$600,000
project to sand blast and re-coat the
Ausable River Bridge this fall.

Ambulance Off-Load Delays

For some time, the
Council of the County of Middlesex has
been increasingly concerned with the
negative impact that ambulance off-load
delays are having on the residents of
Middlesex-London.
The County of Middlesex
is the land ambulance service provider
for London and Middlesex County and the
off-load delay challenge has negatively
impacted upon our ability to provide
timely ambulance service during periods
when several ambulances have been
required to wait for extended periods of
time before emergency department staff
are able to accept the patients.
To address the province’s
off-load delay challenge, the provincial
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
recently agreed to provide the County of
Middlesex with a one-time funding
increase to assist in the hiring of
dedicated emergency room nurses. We are
committed to work with the London Health
Sciences Centre to make this additional
staffing operational as soon as
possible. When the additional
staffing is operational, it will allow
our ambulances to efficiently off-load
patients to the hospital and return to
service at the earliest opportunity.
Middlesex County Council
is very pleased with the Province’s
decision to fund this important interim
measure to address the off-load delay
challenge. In the coming months, County
Council will be working with the
province to more permanently address the
province’s off-load challenge

Middlesex County
Budget

Earlier this year, Middlesex County Council
passed the 2008 Middlesex County budget. The
2008 budget represents the fourth straight year
that county council has kept the budget at a 0%
increase. As a result of 1.6% growth in the
county over the past year, county council was
able to actually reduce the Middlesex County tax
rate by 1.6% for 2008.
At the final budget meeting, Warden Bannister
thanked County Council and staff for all of
their hard work to achieve the budgetary results
in ‘08. As well, Warden Bannister commended the
Middlesex County team for their hard work to
achieve significant tax relief for Middlesex
County residents over the past ten years as he
noted that tax rates in the County of Middlesex
have decreased by 38.6% over the past ten years.

Canada comes to Strathroy-Caradoc.
During the
February 12, 2008 County Council meeting ,
Warden Albert Bannister accepted a cheque and
thanked Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT for their
commitment to the community.
“This clearly is
a win-win for Middlesex County. We were able to
sell a property that was no longer of use to the
county of Middlesex and in return, we were able
to secure a first-class residence that will
serve the residents of Middlesex County well for
many years to come.”
